My Background

For as long as I can remember, painting has been my first love.  When I was in elementary school, my favorite time of day was when I was allowed to paint and create art. As I got older, that love never faded and eventually I wanted to share the love and the joy of painting with everyone I met.

I use many different mediums in my art, but my absolute favorite is acrylics. I have always loved bright, vibrant colors. Earlier on, I was drawn to watercolor because of its fluidity  and luminosity. Later, a love for bold, rich colors was awakened and so began my love affair with acrylics.

I enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultures and customs.  Much of my art and paintings are directly influenced by my travels. My work reflects diversity and the beauty of our differences. My hope is to inspire others to not only SEE the light within themselves & others, but to BE the light.

All about me

I am Tammy  Groves Thornton, the owner and founder of TGT Art and TGT Art Studios.  I am a CREATIVE: an artist, designer,  photographer, author, and illustrator from Memphis, TN.  I grew up in  North and Midtown Memphis and graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I set out to make a difference in the world with my love, compassion, and desire to help make the world a better  place.

As  a child I loved to paint and create. I loved the use of bright,  vibrant colors as they electrified visually and drew me into the  stories being told on canvas. Earlier in life, I was drawn to  watercolor because of its fluidity and luminosity. Later, a love for  bold, rich colors was awakened through the use of acrylics on canvas.

I  think of my art as a catalyst of change; inspiring and uplifting the  spirit and encouraging the heart to love. My work is comprised of  bright colors creating feelings of joy and expressing my love of love.  My work reflects diversity and the embracing of our diversities: race  and ethnicity, culture, and social. I hope to inspire young people,  especially girls, to see themselves as capable of doing and being  anything they choose to be. My purpose is to share my light (God-given  artistry and creativity) with the world. I hope to change the world  one work at a time, one heart at a time, one moment at a time, making it a little better place than I found it.
